However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to get caught up in shoes and socks and can't navigate tight spaces very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of an area.

However, it's a good choice for those who want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can work while you're at work or school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle, however. If you need to clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for a wet one in minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. This is a feature that we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With a sleek, circular design that looks like a regular Roomba rather than the boxes, this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. The newest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot vacuums that mop that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot vacuums best vacuum and mop. It has a range of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection however this was not 100% reliable in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home according to how dirty they are.

For larger homes, it's worth opting for one that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one particular area of your home via the app or voice controls. If you have furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. Additionally the recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

You can use it to make cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance. The app offers a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean which will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like cute little eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, however it is more likely to get caught on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums that we have test. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that doesn't double as an emptying bin.
