The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on floors that were bare They are also adept in removing dog hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which prevent them from being our top option. For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to get caught up in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.

However, it's a good choice for those who want to save money on a iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also very quiet and you can use it while you're at work, or school. The only thing it lacks that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on for long and don't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're in need of it mop, the mopping pad can be changed for one that is wet in just a few just a few seconds.

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into an elegant, compact package. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that has an exemplary 10/10 in our evaluations due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with a simple mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 still a loud unit. This can be a problem in the mornings prior to work or during the night when you're trying to sleep.

It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, although this wasn't quite 100% foolproof during our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its automatic vacuum and mop has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the best automatic vacuum and mop works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home according to the degree of dirt they are.

If you own a larger home, it's worth selecting a robot that comes with the option of cleaning zones or spots. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your home needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. Finally the recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you might expect from its price tag. It's a pro at cleaning, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion, which is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through the mapping process, which gathers information on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance.
