The Best Robot Hoover

The best automatic vacuum robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention. It leaves your floors spotless. Its price is surprisingly low and high-end features (such as dirt detection) are a plus.

Be sure to check your robot's brushes for tangled hair and large particles and clean them as required. Some models will also empty the onboard dustbin and deposit it in an additional bin at the base. This can reduce the amount of fine dust that gets released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums that we have examined. They have motors that are top of the quality and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other premium iRobots (including the top model) they utilize smart mapping to produce precise floorplans that avoid obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. The robots also have the feature of Carpet Boost which boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept in cleaning hair from dogs. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to get caught up in shoes and socks and can't navigate tight spaces very efficiently in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a great option, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also extremely quiet and operates while you are at work or in school. The only thing it doesn't have that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. If you want to, you can swap the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. Its smart cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles, like pet hair. It also has self-emptying dustbins, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets, however it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performing mop and vacuum combination uses advanced sensor technology to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it will learn your home's layout over time for more efficient cleaning. You can modify its cleaning schedule and set up zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to pull back and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross contamination. Its flex arm can also be utilized to reach under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean the entire house with the battery at 66 percent left. It did a good cleaning job on different rooms and floors with various kinds of flooring, including certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it swiftly eluded fake dog turds, socks, shoes and cables.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically emptys into its base, and supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums, a feature that we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With a sleek circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxes, this robot vacuum best vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive looking models in our tests. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also among its most advanced. It has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that has a perfect 10 in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured lighting system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot hoover and mop we tested that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It comes with an easy mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work or at night when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but it's not as expensive as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally powerful and better-looking. If you're willing to live some more volume and a little more cost this is a powerful two-in-one that will delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features that will let you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes care of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot uses a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and identify obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium rivals. It also has a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite 100% foolproof during our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the house based on how dirty the areas tend to be.

If you have a larger home, it's worth choosing a model that has zones or spot cleaning modes. This lets you tell the robot which area of your home needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice command. If you have lots of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. For families with busy schedules, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be extremely useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you'd imagine from its price. It does a stellar job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with only one pad and a reciprocating motion which is cleaner than the majority mop cleaners for robots that we've examined. It's self-sufficient too, with a fully-featured app as well as a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping, which gathers information on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to organize the spot-cleaning. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas for better performance. The app also provides access to a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and under furniture more easily. It has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble adorable eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is louder than the other top robotic vacuums we've tested. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that doesn't double as an emptying bin.
