WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you an increase in certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by +3. A random substat is also added to each upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and Item level upgrade can't be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enchantments.

The upgrader is located in every major city, Item level upgrade and is accessible anytime to upgrade your gear. It is recommended to visit the upgrader at least once every few weeks to ensure that your equipment is up to date.

Upgrades can cost more based on the level of the item, however, they are always cheaper than buying new equipment. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest up to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players from NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for different currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any weapon, tool, or armor. button, which will display an Item Level Upgrade's preview at the next upgrade item level in the event that the player has enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the item upgrades slot, and the current item level. For example weapons are more expensive than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item upgrades is upgraded to a certain level, it can be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of both currency types.

Upgraders for items are available at many locations including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and a possibility of getting an entirely new recipe. The discount on upgrades increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no upgrader for items at the start of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade are acquired via several methods that are both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3, many new features have been added to the upgrade system. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a specific item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading additional items to the same level will cost less even when they are part of an entirely different set of gear.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players have reached certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

Players have several options when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests can only be spent on equipment that is of a particular rank, and that each rank has different requirements for upgrading. The most basic and straightforward upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the more complex one may require as many as 20 crests depending on the kind of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing content at the appropriate level. This could be done by engaging in outdoor activities or completing dungeons and raids in all difficulty levels to obtain lower-tier gear or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons that have a high difficulty to obtain endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

The use of these currencies isn't that difficult however, the system introduces some modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece of equipment has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it is no longer required to purchase Flightstones. This change allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another notable modification is that crests have one purpose, so it's important to make use of them in a responsible manner. For instance it's a good idea to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the Best item upgrade equipment you have and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you're planning to create. This is particularly applicable to items like trinkets and rings that take up multiple slots. The discount on the account is only applicable when all slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
