The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we've tested. They feature motors that are top-of-the quality and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the most powerful model) they employ smart mapping to create detailed floor plans and eliminate household obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also have a feature called carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it spots the presence of dirt on the carpet in order to get it cleaned up quickly.

Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our tests on floors that are bare, and they're particularly adept in removing pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws, however, that prevent them from being our first option. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to get stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of an area.

It's still a good value particularly if your home or office has lots of unfinished floors and you're looking to save some money. Additionally, it's quiet and can work while you're at work, or school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have self-emptying docks, however. If you're required to, the mopping pad can be changed for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with self-emptying dustbins as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, though it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors that help it keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time and provide better cleaning. The app lets you customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. It has a battery lifespan that is similar to other models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a carpeted room which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm is perfect for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum cleaners uk vacuum/mop to sweep the entire house with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did an excellent job cleaning a range of floors and rooms with different flooring types, including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top-notch, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically fills up its base, and also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums it, something we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that appears much like a Roomba model than the boxy units of the competitors. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the sole robot vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it boasts the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, offering a simple mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work or in the evening when you are trying to sleep.

It's also a bit costly however, not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to live with a little more noise and some extra cost this is a powerful two-in-one that will delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features that let you get rid of your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take charge of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its competitors with premium features. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home depending on how dirty they tend to be.

If you have a bigger home, it's worth selecting a robot that comes with the option of cleaning zones or spots. This lets you instruct the robot on which part of your home needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice command. If you have furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. Finally a recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum take over exactly where it left off is ideal for best robot hoover busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you would think from its price. It has a great vacuuming performance and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad that has a reciprocating motion, which does a better job cleaning than the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying base that can be washed.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping, which gathers information on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or set up the spot-cleaning. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas for better performance. The app also gives access to a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it can reach corners and under furniture more easily. It has an impressive 8,000 Pascal suction as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean the area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is a bit noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've tested. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
