How to Replace an audi replacement key cost uk G28 Engine Speed Sensor

FIAT.pngCharles the Humble Technician teaches you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal the ECU via a grey wire (T55/49) which is then sent to the tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated at the edges of the transmission, above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference for comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can start spark and injectors accordingly.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate the possibility of a chain stretch or jumped chain link in the upper chain. However, the error code won't appear on its own, without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It is a little tricky to test as there are several pins on the connector and they all have different functions. The best way to do it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read about 1000 ohms when it is operating at its maximum. If you are having problems with this sensor, look for evidence of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at a high speed, i noticed a huge decrease in power. It was as if the engine had run out of gas. Or, my injectors weren't firing. I took out the spark plugs this morning, three were drenched in gasoline and the fourth was dry. When I crank the engine without sparks, i place a tissue on top of each injector hole, the 3 drenched with gazoline jump out but the 4th stay shut. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I got 0ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID but without success. The car is able to start if the G28 is unplugged and runs fine when it is connected but it still has the intermittent misfire issue at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even if it is not plugged in, shows an ice temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar but the actual pressure is 0.

I'm not sure what to do. I think I've ruled everything else out. But i'm worried that I might have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please share them! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find an extra in a wrecking shop or a parts store. It is simple to test them - put your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and new audi a4 key replacement key (king-wifi.win) 2 (2nd from the left on the black connector's side). They must be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines requires to know the position and speed the crankshaft to determine timing of fuel injectors, etc. To accomplish this, it utilizes a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If you encounter a problem with either one of these, the diagnostic scanner will show codes that could cause an engine shut down.

A failing G28 sensor can cause an inaccurate speed counter for your gearbox and a gearbox which shifts more quickly than normal, and/or a misfire in the gear. If you are experiencing any of these issues it is likely your sensor is going bad and needs replacing. The good news is they are very cheap and readily available particularly when you're looking at the Bosch unit which is what we have. Alternatively, the GM version of this component is also a good choice.

5. Tachometer

A failing engine sensor could cause a number of problems in your audi a1 car key. It's a crucial component of the transmission of your audi car key Cover, as it transmits information to the ECU about how fast or slow the engine is spinning. This sensor could cause the transmission to fail and other components in the car to be affected.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the outskirts of transmission, above the flywheel ring. It sends a signal via a gray wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU is then able to process this signal to control fuel, timig and boost, and also transmitting it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can determine if the sensor is in failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. Also, you can verify continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79trace [79]), and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. You should detect a resistance of approximately 1000 ohms in these areas. This is a common feature across the audi replacement key 80-100-200-RS2 series, starting beginning with the 1985 MC and up to the 1997 UrS AN and 1995 RS2 Du, so you might find them in wrecking yards.
