Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade

Glyphs are only available in gathering tools. They provide a variety bonuses, from increasing the speed at which an item gathers to providing extra crafting material.

Select the item in your inventory, then open the Upgrade window. This will display a preview on the right side of the screen that shows what the expected stats are after the upgrade, along with any necessary components or materials. If you don't possess enough of either, the Upgrade button will be marked as Blocked.

The upper-right corner displays the amount of upgrade components required to create a particular item. The cost of upgrading increases depending on the level of upgrade and rarity, but it can be reduced by various methods, including purchasing upgrades from a retailer or trading them with other players.

Most weapons can be improved by adding a prefix, such as a rune, or an insignia. Some can be enhanced with a suffix. These upgrades alter the name of the item and add an adjective, like "Radiant" or "Minor vigor. The only exceptions are the noninscribable wands, shields and foci from the Prophecies and Factions campaigns, which cannot be upgraded with any kinds of mods at all.

Glyphs

Glyphs are a way to communicate visual information. They are animated to grab the viewer's eye and entice curiosity. The animation of glyphs mimics body language, making them more effective at conveying messages across language barriers. Glyphs also create a sense of familiarity in the brain, thereby increasing retention of the message.

Each glyph comes with a range of values that it could improve a stat by in the form of an item when you open the glyph in the Glyph Storage or when you use them to enchant an artifact. This is not the actual amount at the glyph can increase the stat, but rather the maximum amount by which it can do so. The actual value of the glyph is determined by the tier and quality of the item you are creating it for.

Most upgrade components inserted into items are not able to be replaced or salvaged without dismantling the gear in question, with the exception of legendary equipment and upgrades. However, if you have a non-useful rune or glyph that hasn't yet been applied to your gear, you can move it to a different piece of equipment by utilizing the Upgrade Glyphs context menu within the Glyphs panel. This will create a new Glyph Set with the selected glyph.

If you wish to remove the glyph from an item, you will need to save it using a Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. This will cause the item to be destroyed within which it is placed but you will be able to salvage the upgraded item by using the glyph and its shards, therefore, it shouldn't be considered as a loss.

A glyph added to an item may cause it to become unstable, and the shards that are left of that glyph will disappear from your inventory once you take it down. You can also add an inscription on your equipment to make it more valuable. For example the glyph Deferred Damage can store damage for the wearer and then deal it out slowly rather than all at once. Reroll tokens

Leveling

There are many ways to boost the value of an upgrade for an item. The most effective method to level up an upgrade items for an item is to increase the upgrade amount.
