A robot vacuum will keep your floors clean enough to decrease the frequency of manual hoovering. Pick a robot vacuum that has good navigation, has the ability to clean stairs and corners and has an enormous bin that only needs to be cleaned out every now and then.

There are models that mop and charge on their own which can be beneficial for those with pets or kids. The top performers in our tests have great obstacles to avoid.

1. IRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO is similar to its sibling, the i3 EVO. They differ only in that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. That makes the i3+ a great option for those who want an automated, hands-free cleaning experience but don't mind taking the time to empty their robot vac's trash bin when it is full.

Both robots excel at picking up surface debris on hard floors and carpets, and they're excellent at getting around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates smart maps of your home that aid the i3+ in its navigation and clean up efficiently. However, unlike the i7+ and other top rated robots we test the i3+ does not have any obstacle-avoidance features and therefore it could get stuck on things such as socks or power cords, and may have issues navigating across surface transitions, such as from hardwood to carpet.

iRobot recommends you clear out areas where the i3+ EVO will vacuum prior to when you use it, including clearing out any toys or clutter it may come across. It is also recommended to keep the dustbin and filters clean to prevent them from becoming clogged. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is full or the battery is empty it will return to its docking station, automatically emptying its dirt into the station's dust bin, and then continues cleaning the area where it left off. The i3+ EVO's battery can last for approximately an hour and a half of continuous use, and it takes around three hours to fully recharge.

2. IRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line and is packed with the most recent features. It's self-charging and self-navigating. -- the most important feature of all -- it comes with a self-emptying dustbin that eliminates one of the most important sources of maintenance for any robot remote vacuum cleaner.

The Roomba i7+ can remember up to 10 automatic floor cleaning machine plans and their names using Imprint Smart Mapping, a system that allows it to map rooms so it can clean them more efficiently. It also works with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning jobs and control your robot using voice or via the app.

The i7+ is quicker and more maneuverable in our tests compared to the eufy RoboVac G30. It also cleaned large pet hair pieces from any surface including carpeting. The biggest benefit over the eufy, is its self-emptying dustbin which eliminates a major cause of maintenance and lowers the cost of maintenance.

We were also awestruck by the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services that we used to instruct the robot vacuum Cleaner quiet to start, stop or pause its cleaning routines and to move around the room and sweep the area. Connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and easy with the iRobot Home app. Once connected, we were able to communicate with the i7+ using voice commands, such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s preferences and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world filled with vacuums that are cordless and look like minivans or buses, this small Dyson model feels like a sports car. It's powerful and has features to replace a stand-up vacuum for the majority of households and can fit in well next to the table for a coffee or shelves where you can move it around like the magic wand.

The V10 is powered with a Lithium-ion battery with 7 cells of energy, which produces power without fading for 60 minutes. The sophisticated whole-machine filter system is able to trap allergens and then releases fresh air into your home. The specially designed head utilizes stiff nylon bristles that penetrate deep into carpets, and then pick up large particles or fine dust. It comes with three suction settings to meet the task being performed. It quickly switches from floor vac to handheld vacuum and back.

This model also has docks that charge to 100% in about 3.5 hours, and gives users easy access to two attachments as well as an wand clip. This is a significant improvement over earlier Dysons, which take a long time to charge and are difficult to store.

The V10's biggest drawback is its limited run time. As CR's tests have shown, its marketing claims of up to 60 minutes are misleading. This is a standard, not exceptional, battery-powered cordless vacuum's running time. It's still enough time to clean most of a typical-sized home but not long enough to clean every spot (though a second run-through usually does the trick). This model has its own advantages however: it's light and more mobile than previous Dysons cordless models and its ability to vacuum is noticeable superior on low-pile floor carpet.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

One of iRobot's most popular robot vacuums the 694 is an affordable model that's an excellent option for those who don't wish to spend too much on a robotic. It's capable of sucking up all debris types and sizes during our tests, and frequently goes over the same areas multiple times to ensure a thorough clean. The flat front of the unit allows it reach into corners and along the edges of walls which is a nice touch.

Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate around your home, but it isn't equipped with the mapping capabilities of more sophisticated models such as our top choices and the i3+ EVO and the j7+ series. This means that it may get stuck on things like phone cords and low furniture, and it frequently will run out of battery before returning to its original location.

The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in all aspects because it has fewer components that need regular cleaning, is fitted with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, incurs lower recurring costs, has more advanced automation capabilities and does a better job moving itself. It also has a bigger dustbin and charges faster.

The eufy RoboVac X8 is superior to the Roomba 694 in most reasons, since it has a longer battery life, has the ability to alter its suction power mode manually and has physical boundary strips, and can be controlled by your smartphone's voice assistant. It also feels more sturdy and has a stronger motor, and is able to perform better on both bare floors and carpets with a low pile, as well as offering a wider range of automation options.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a name that is seen on a variety of electronic gadgets for your home It's no surprise that they're also one of the most popular mop and robot vacuum manufacturers. Their Jet Bot AI+ is loaded with cutting-edge onboard intelligence technology for navigation and obstacle avoidance.

The app offers a wide range of options for customizing your robotic cleaner. This includes mopping levels, virtual barriers and behavior customizations, docking frequency settings and much more. The app is simple to navigate and use as are other Samsung devices.

In our testing our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors and handled dog hair (on carpet) very well, picking up 86% of it. It did not do well in avoiding taller objects like cords or socks. This was disappointing. It's also more expensive than some of the other models we tried which could be a deterrent for certain shoppers.

The app allows you to access the onboard camera of the smart vacuum. You can also set up live streaming from the robot vacuum sale's cleaning zone. This feature allows you to monitor your pets or kids when you're away from home. The filter and the dust bin can be cleaned to make cleanup quick and easy. The Jet Bot AI+ also comes with a clean station that self-empties and helps keep the robot's dustbin clean and optimizes its suction power for each cleaning.

6. Black & Decker Robot Vacuum

Unlike other robotic vacuums, which are designed for both hard floors and carpets, Black and Decker robots are specifically designed for hard floors. They feature an extra-wide cleaning path and an extra-large dust bin that can hold 2X more debris than other models to keep the area clear for robot vacuum cleaner quiet maximum runtime. Additionally, they come with two side sweepers to clean up around edges and in corners. The POWERSERIES Extreme model comes with AutoSense technology, which can tell whether it's picking up dirt or debris on the surface and then automatically adjusts its power level. It also has a smart app that lets you view the virtual map and manage functions and schedules. You can also monitor the status of the vacuum and connect it to the dock for charging at the press of a single button. The app also allows you to personalize the lights on top of the vacuum by using different colors, so you can clearly see which areas it's focused on or where it's got stuck.

The application also allows you to manually steer the robot if needed. For instance, my living room rug has a darkly-colored border that tends to cause confusion for other robots I've tested. The HRV 425BL however continued to travel across the border, without notifying the cliff. The ability to program a daily cleaning schedule for each week is a time-saving convenience.
