A highly experienced consultant psychiatrist will conduct a comprehensive assessment of your ADHD. This includes an examination of your medical history as well as an assessment using the standard ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

After your examination After your assessment, you will be informed if medication would be beneficial for your specific situation. The discussion will take place at your follow-up appointment (which can take place in person, via video link or by phone). If you do not decide to return to NHS care and have decided to return to NHS care, your medication will be issued with a prescription from a private pharmacy that you'll have to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in your consultation fees). You will be required to attend six monthly appointments to monitor your medication - this includes pulse and blood pressure readings. Annual exams are also required.

Follow-up appointments

Once the assessment is completed and you are satisfied, you can schedule follow-up appointments with the psychiatrist. The appointment is usually done via zoom video call. In some cases, it may be possible to have an audio-only appointment to be scheduled (again at an additional cost).

We will then discuss treatment options and choose the most appropriate, customized ADHD medication adjustment. This will include a review of your medication dose and a discussion of any possible adverse effects you may be experiencing. The titration sessions cost PS150 for face-to-face sessions and PS60 via video or telephone consultation. The pharmacy will charge you for any cost of medication.

The psychiatrist will also inquire with you about your family history and the impact your ADHD symptoms can have on your life, as well as any issues with your relationships that you may be having or other mental health problems that you may be suffering from. This is because ADHD is a genetic condition and it is important to examine any family history that could indicate that you're at risk of developing the disorder.

It is essential that you are honest and transparent with the clinician during the assessment, since the information they receive will be used to determine whether your ADHD fits the diagnostic criteria. This is an important step, as the wrong diagnosis can lead to inappropriate medication prescription.

If you decide to seek treatment for ADHD we'll schedule an appointment to follow-up with a psychiatrist who specializes in this area. If you'd like to start treatment right away it is possible to start treatment at the time of diagnosis. You can also wait two weeks to think about the implications of the diagnosis and your options.

If you're not sure what you would prefer, we suggest that you talk with your GP prior to scheduling your private assessment as some providers have different policies about whether they require the submission of a GP referral letter or not. Check if your GP accepts the Shared Care Agreement, which means you will be referred to them once you leave the clinic to get a medication prescription.

Medication

After you have been recommended, your physician will assess you to determine if require medication adjustment. If, however, they require further discussion about the titration process and treatment plan, it's possible to be referred back to the same private clinic that conducted their initial assessment. In this scenario the titration will be included in the consultation fee. The medication will be given via the private prescription. This could cost more than prescriptions from the NHS since the pharmacy will charge you for the medication.
