WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades can give you an increase in specific statistics. Each upgrade increases item upgrading level by +3. A random substat is also boosted alongside each upgrade.

The more modernized gear generally has a greater value for trade as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variation (like eth titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. The item used to upgrade the item upgrading will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can be applied to the enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities, and can be visited at any time to upgrade your equipment. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

The cost of upgrades will be based on the current level of the equipment being upgraded, but will always be cheaper than buying new equipment from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item upgrader kit will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items that can be used to upgrade weapons, tools, armor, and other items. They can be bought by players from item upgrader NPCs in exchange for different currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be applied to any weapon or tool using an button, which displays an image of the item at its next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot for the item and the current level of the item level Upgrade. For example, weapons will cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Some upgrades offer a discount on the Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Upgraders for Item level upgrade items are available in many places on the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and the chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrades increases according to the number of items that are being upgraded. It is also possible to be boosted by having players complete some specific achievements or quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no upgrader for items available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade require various methods that are both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been altered a bit, with numerous new features added. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a particular level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will cost less, even if they are part of a different gear set.

Crests

Crests are more specialized and are used for specific item upgrading level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

First, you should know that crests are only available for equipment that is of a particular rank. Each rank comes with an upgrade path that is different. The most basic and straightforward upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the most complicated can require as much as 20 crests based on the kind of gear being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and performing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, dungeons or raids of all difficulty for items of higher tier or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. These crests can then be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't too difficult, but the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade process. When a piece of equipment has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it will no longer require Flightstones. This change allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest level possible for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests wisely, as they only have one use. It is recommended to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the highest-quality gear you can find and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is especially relevant for items like rings and trinkets that occupy several slots. The discount for the entire account will only be applicable if all slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
